This exhibition honors the artistry of women who have profoundly influenced my life and highlights the frequently under-appreciated talent of female artists in galleries and museums. It is imperative that we redefine the narrative and drive cultural progress. Through acknowledging the artistic contributions of these “women of substance” we elevate their fundamental importance in our society. Eileen Bernstein, Curator

Artist statement
From time to time my attention is so perfect that I become what I am sensing. I am all around me and nowhere at once. This is good, like love. Making a painting induces such self abstraction and like the plane defined when a bow is drawn, comes between me and my senses to deliver them in the concrete. The painting is me disguised. Like the animals in the wild, without being there, I can be there. They are colored (painted) to appear transparent, and so , are invisible. They are there, like me, without being there. And of course, the more careful the painting is the better it’s chance for survival.
Like the wild animals, transparency is the subject of my paintings. I picture cut flowers in transparent glasses, bottles and vases surrounded by transparency’s close relatives, reflection and shadow. I render with felicity but so as to appear spontaneous, to shimmer and dazzle, to stop the viewer with a confusion that bears the possibility of pure abstraction. The paintings of two particular wild animals , my favorite Fauves, Bonnard and Vuillard, do that. I want sensation to linger a moment before recognition.
